Somalia develops its National Trade Policy
Government and business representatives reviewed Somalia’s proposed National Trade Policy 2027–2031 and the barriers facing traders.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry brought government and business representatives together on 19 August 2026 to review Somalia’s proposed National Trade Policy for 2027–2031. The consultation was supported by the World Bank through HoA DRIVE Somalia.
Participants examined findings from trade and legal assessments and discussed obstacles businesses face, including customs and licensing procedures, standards and certification, high transport and energy costs, and limited trade finance.
The proposed policy is intended to set Somalia’s trade priorities as the country implements its East African Community and African Continental Free Trade Area commitments and continues its World Trade Organization accession process.
